From Mar 29th through Jun 30th, 2007Art Rouge Gallery in Coral Gables is presenting the exhibition Still Live… Not Exactly featuring French artist Dimitri Tolstoi. Son of Count Serge Tolstoi and Colette Deloffre, Dimitri is the great grandson of writer Leo Tolstoi. By using mainly juxtaposed images, this photographer artfully succeeds in moving his audience and transcending the object he has photographed. In most of his pieces, a common bit of waste becomes an essential beauty accessory. Following the footsteps of Arthur Rimbaud and Charles Baudelaire, Dimitri Tolstoï brings his own “Correspondance” and his “Fleurs du mal”. In doing so, he strives to awaken the poetic sensitivity sleeping in each of us. He keeps us from losing sight of the beauty in this world by creating contrasts between death and life. By combining what is with what is no longer, Dimitri Tolstoï’s photographs symbolize the power that poetry gives to death. For more information, please call: 305.448.2060
