Arts at St. Johns. From Jun 8th through 12th, 2009.
Arts at St. Johns starts the month of June with the exhibition Divine Debris and Glorious Trash, hosted at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. The exhibit features artwork fabricated from found, discarded and recycled objects. The result is works that celebrate the reinvention of castoffs in media ranging from sculpture and assemblage, to painting, photography, jewelry and more.
Open Installation and meet-the-artists will be on Monday June 8th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The free opening takes place on Tuesday, June 9th, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., with music by Madame Turk and film by Dinorah de Jesús Rodríguez.
The whole country is “going green” over energy-conserving, money-saving products and services. The art world helps lead the way in creative ways of recycling discarded and used objects. The Arts at St. Johns, a community-based arts program is dedicated to present arts programming that encourages dialogue about social issues and provides transformation through the arts.
The exhibit is co-sponsored by Arts at St. Johns Inc. and ArtShare LLC. Fifteen artists are included in the exhibit, plus co-curators Paula Turk, founding director of ArtShare, and Carol Hoffman, founding director of Arts at St. Johns. Participating artists include Aimee Ortiz, Deborah O’Dwyer, Dina Knapp, Dinorah de Jesús Rodríguez , Eva Ruiz, Daniel Fila (Krave), Laura Cerwinske, Rianne, Steve Forero-Paz, Stewart Stewart, Thomas Banks, Uta, and Vanessa Garcia.
