Colony Theatre. March 29 and 30, 2013, 8:00 p.m.
Songs of Spring, the latest (and 13th!) collaboration between Dance NOW! Directors Diego Salterini and Hannah Baumgarten was conceived to commemorate the Holy week shared by both Passover and Easter this year. “When trying to design a theme, we realized that both holidays celebrate life’s renewal, the rejoicing of youth, the delight of the flora bursting from its hibernation and the cyclical, playful nature of the season itself” says Baumgarten. “Once we spoke to Michael Andrews about performing with us, things really gelled” says Salterini. “Our groups have been trying to find the right moment to work together for almost a decade, and we finally have arrived!”
The South Beach Chamber Ensemble will accompany Dance NOW! with Mozart’s Iconic Eine kleine Nachtmusik, a work created as a party dance and one, which embodies spring completely in its subtlety and its boldness. The World Premiere will erupt with all things Spring, overflowing in quirky, lively movements, in costumes from Heather Lane/Shades of Earth and a floral microcosmos set from the fervid imagination of Architect Elizabeth Camargo.
Tickets are $35 general, $30 advanced, $15 students and seniors, and can be purchased at the Colony Box Office, Ticketmaster or dancenowmiami.org.
