Robert Storr, Dean of Yale University’s School of Art, will speak on Friday, February 20th at 8:00 p.m. at FIU’s Wertheim Performing Arts Center as part of The Frost Art Museum’s Steven and Dorothea Green Critics’ Lecture Series.
Mr. Storr will speak about the evolution of contemporary art that he has witnessed and helped to shape in his many years as a writer and critic. He will bring his knowledge and experience to give his perspective on the gradual transformation from modern to contemporary art. Storr’s achievements reach throughout the art world. While starting his work at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in 1990 he was Curator for many exhibitions ranging from the work of Elizabeth Murray to Robert Ryman. In 1999 he was elevated to Senior Curator of Painting and Sculpture, which only added to his influential art expertise. He left his position at MoMa in 2002 and took on the role as the Rosalie Solow Professor of Modern Art at NYU. In 2007, he became the first American to receive the honor of serving as commissioner of the Venice Biennale. He is currently Consulting Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Since 1981, the Green Critics’ Lecture Series has introduced an array of art world luminaries to the South Florida community, including renowned artists, museum curators, scholars and critics. The Frost has hosted such distinguished figures as Philippe de Montebello, Terry Gross, Carlos Fuentes, Robert Hughes and Michael Graves.
