Coral Gables Art Cinema. May 8, 2012. 7:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, May 8, the Gables Cinema has a classic Italian film screening with a showing of the original Swept Away (not the recent Madonna remake!) at 7:00 p.m. One of the great directors of world cinema, Lina Wertmüller, made this pointed, comedy-drama about sex, love and politics in 1974, and it was easily her most famous and controversial film.
When a very rich and imperious woman is marooned on a Mediterranean desert island with a crude, decidedly Left-wing sailor, steamily embodied by a young Giancarlo Giannini, the fun and games begin.
This is not a ticketed event, but a suggested donation of $10 can be given at the door, to support this program. This screening is presented in collaboration with the Societa Dante Alighieri and the Italian Film Festival, under the auspices of the Consulate General of Italy in Miami.
