From Jan 29th through Feb 1st, 2010.
Circa Puerto Rico has moved from its former date in April to January. The fair will now take place January 29th through February 1st, 2010 at the prominent Puerto Rico Convention Center in the heart of San Juan. Going into its fifth edition, this new date will allow Circa Puerto Rico to participate in the year’s art fair calendar, post Art Basel Miami Beach, helping to raise the fair’s visibility. In addition, Circa has come to a bilateral cooperation agreement with Art Beijing.Â
The unique opportunity to visit collections of important groups of private collectors that have emerged in Puerto Rico – mirroring both local and international trends – together with the singular charm of Old San Juan, make Circa Puerto Rico into the perfect destination for the international art lover that seeks contemporary art in a more personal, intimate, and one-on-one environment.      Â
Circa Puerto Rico and Art Beijing are working on a bilateral cooperation agreement for coming editions which will create exciting opportunities between the fair and Art Beijing through a series of gallery exchanges; the presentation of 3 Chinese galleries with the works of emerging Chinese artists at Circa Puerto Rico and 3 emerging Puerto Rican and Latin American galleries at Art Beijing; the invitation of Chinese collectors to Puerto Rico and Puerto Rican and Latin American collectors to Beijing; and the organization of a series of panels and conferences on Chinese contemporary art in Puerto Rico and on Puerto Rican and Latin American art in Beijing.
Intimate in terms of size and personal in terms of feeling, both Circa Puerto Rico and Art Beijing have become centers for challenging contemporary practices giving visibility to an important amount of extraordinary local artistic talent. In a time when peripheries become the center, Circa Puerto Rico and Art Beijing emerge as an undoubtedly fresh and dynamic scenario for contemporary art.
Throughout these years, Circa Puerto Rico has been creating an international reputation for its special focus on emerging art, either young or non-established, and it will continue to do so with a new section called Ideals: a special section that will become a platform for a small group of contemporary emerging art galleries that will present work sold for $5,000 or less. The showcased galleries emphasize their engagement with young or new collectors, enabling them to buy accessible work from artists that are on their way to gaining international acknowledgement.
In its continuing endeavor to promote emerging art and more interdisciplinary and alternative artistic proposals, enabling younger audiences a more democratic and less intimidating access to contemporary culture, Circa Labs offers a cross-cultural experience in which urban art, live music, performance, styling, skating, tattooing, and product customization mix – providing a totally fresh and challenging approach to contemporary art practices.
Curated by London-based gallerist-curator Pablo León de la Barra, this next edition will present a series of innovative proposals that will engage the public with artistic production in non-traditional ways.
