Come celebrate Brazilian Independence Day with Chico César's Muito Forro y Frevo on September 5th, 2008 at the Culture Room, located at 3045 N. Federal Hwy in Ft. Lauderdale.
Forro is the rootsy party music of Brazil’s Northeast. Like its Colombian cousin valleñato, it is based around the bass and accordion and it guaranteed get the party started. And like valleñato, it has made the leap from the music of the poor to become the rage with hipsters in the capital and the world. Cariocas and paulistas cannot get enough forro! Now it is our chance, and also to celebrate Brazilian Independence Day!
Chico César first gained fame at home for songs featured in popular Brazilian novellas. In recent years, the diminutive star has emerged as one of Brazil's leading songwriters and social critics, taking up the mantle of women's rights, the homeless, and other social causes in his compositions and videos. He is the youngest of seven children from a poor family in the town of Catolé do Rocha in the Northeastern state of Paraíba. By 12, he composed his first song – a composition that earned him his first guitar by finishing in fourth place in a regional musical competition. After earning a degree in journalism, César moved to São Paulo.
