Brazilian Film Festival of Miami

From Aug 13th through 21st, 2010.

altThe Brazilian Film Festival of Miami is back for its 14th edition in South Florida. The original event responsible for the creation of the Inffinito Festival Circuit, which today organizes 10 Brazilian Film Festivals around the Globe, will be held from August 13th through 21st, 2010.  The event traditionally promoted in June moves to the second half of the year in 2010, a great chance for the public to watch the absolutely latest Brazilian productions of the current year.

More than forty feature and short films from renowned Brazilian and international filmmakers will be showcased for movie lovers. The Brazilian Film Festival of Miami has always been the largest event to promote Brazilian films and host the largest Awards Ceremony for Brazilian films outside of Brazil. From Lula, Son of Brazil, the story of the current President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, a common man, his family and his extraordinary ability to rise above hardship, directed by Fabio Barreto, to the unusual love story between a young lesbian and a transvestite that takes place in Copacabana, in Elvis & Madona, directed by Marcelo Laffitte, the 14th Brazilian Film Festival promises an array of genres, including comedy, romance and documentaries set to take over the big screen at the Colony Theatre.

Once again, the Cinema Paradiso in Fort Lauderdale will also host the Brazilian Film Festival, offering a parallel screening from August 14th through 20th, honoring famous Brazilian actress Andrea Beltrão and her body of work. Great documentaries will also be showcased at Cinema Paradiso, including Beyond Ipanema – Brazilian Waves in Global Music, addressing the repeating cycle of the (re)discovery of Brazilian music in the world through interviews with David Byrne, Devendra Banhart, M.I.A., Mutantes, Tom Zé, Seu Jorge, Thievery Corporation, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and many others,

The movies in competition – all Florida premiere – will be shown at the Colony Theatre only, with the Crystal Lens Awards Ceremony to take place on August 21st, 2010, followed by Maria Gadu in concert. Brazilian singer and songwriter Gadu has been appointed as the new voice of the MBP, the Brazilian Popular Music, and has performed with internationally well-known artists such as Caetano Veloso.
