The Bamberg Symphony traces its roots to the 18th Century, when it premiered Mozart’s masterpiece Don Giovanni in Prague. Moving to Germany after World War II, the Bamberg Symphony has established itself as one of the leading German orchestras, and among the first to tour the United States where it has been delighting audiences regularly for more than half a century.

In recognition of a collaboration which has now lasted for 50 years, the Bamberg Symphony has appointed Christoph Eschenbach as its Honorary Conductor. He becomes the fourth conductor, after Eugen Jochum, Horst Stein and Herbert Blomstedt, to be accorded this distinction. A distinguished pianist as well as a masterful conductor, “Eschenbach can be counted on to deliver individualistic interpretations of almost anything,” noted The Baltimore Sun. Ray Chen’s violin artistry is “to die for,” according to The Huffington Post, adding that the young virtuoso has “the kind of liquid tone that carries with it emotional depths of great intimacy.”
