October 2009
Artspace MAGQ is opening its second and more spacious gallery and studio space to accommodate the growing needs of the founding artists. Mike Arnspiger and Gerardo Gonzalez-Quevedo will expand on their creative and artistic visions to promote and provide a gallery venue for other local, national, and international artists. The gallery and working studio space also produces high quality Ultrachrome Pigment Editions and one of a kind pieces for other artists.
Artspace MAGQ will be opening its new space for the first time with a showing of art comprised of works by Mike Arnspiger and Gerardo Gonzalez-Quevedo. Paintings, photography, and mixed media will be shown at the gallery. The gallery is located just north of the Falls Shopping Center near US1 and adjacent to the city of Pinecrest, Forida.
Mike Arnspiger, a Colombian born fine arts photographer will exhibit works in black and white in large format sizes primarily from a recent expedition in Death Valley California and works of Florida Botanicals. On exhibit also will be abstract photographic images that are the results of first time collaborative works with artist Gerardo Gonzalez-Quevedo. Mike Arnspiger’s vision of simplicity is promulgated by his many travels and experiences throughout the world. As an extreme athlete, martial artist, ultramarathoner, and former U.S. Marine, Mike has traveled far and wide taking photographs that have a combined feeling of many of the endeavors that have affected his vision of the simplicity that is Zen in nature, moving Zen to still life Zen…the world’s palette moving across his lens. Mike Arnspiger is collected privately and by corporations. His work is presently in permanent installations locally and internationally. Mike Arnspiger is a former student of the famed photographers Jerry Uelsmann and Douglas Prince of the University of Florida.
Gerardo Gonzalez-Quevedo, a multi talented and prolific Cuban born artist working in many mediums will be exhibiting varied recent and past works comprised of oil and acrylic paintings, mixed media including encaustic works on wood, prints and original lithographs on paper. To try and simply categorize this artist’s work would be to confine this thought provoking and complicated man into a space in time that will not exist. Gerardo Gonzalez-Quevedo’s work deals with his past and present personal history, separation, memories, traveling, transplanting, integration, belonging, and his immediate surroundings. At the same time his work is open ended. Most viewers’ experiences will differ, and their reactions will vary, but the artist hopes that they will become more aware of their own histories, and if possible incorporate them to the narratives and contradictions that have been created. This exhibit will also include for the first time collaborative photographic works with artist Mike Arnspiger. Widely exhibited and collected privately, by corporations and museums Gerardo Gonzalez-Quevedo is an alumnus of the School of Visual Arts in New York.
