February 2012.
ArtCenter/South Florida’s Board of Directors has named Maria Del Valle Hernandez as Executive Director. An incubator for contemporary art, the organization serves its community with dynamic education programs, juried artist exhibitions and 40 artist-in-residence studios at 800, 810 and 924 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach. Del Valle Hernandez joins ACSF as a leader in the industry with more than 20 years experience in the United States and internationally.
“I’m interested in the non-profit sector because it allows us to focus on factors aside from economic gain, including community advancement through arts and culture; professional and career development for the artists; and the overall impact in the life of citizens,” said Del Valle. “To achieve these benchmarks, a sound model for efficiency must be in place – accountability and transparency are both key in running a charity organization that, in large part, depends on the support of generous donors and its peers.”
Born in Madrid, Spain, Del Valle shares a personal affinity for Miami’s multi-cultural audiences. Prior to accepting the position at ArtCenter/South Florida, she was Executive Director at the Center for the Creation of the Arts (CREAA) in Madrid. With her strategic planning, development and management skills, this contract position was a natural extension of Del Valle’s previous employment with the Centro Cultural Español of Spain in Miami, where she was Executive Director and Cultural Attaché. Del Valle’s mission to bring the CCE to the frontlines of the city’s cultural scene was achieved by her polished management skills, extensive network and visionary thinking. In this role, she also served as advisor to the Consul General of Spain in cultural affairs; and has further consulted for the University of Barcelona in Miami and for significant cultural and heritage projects across Latin America.
Del Valle’s extensive experience parallels her deep appreciation for South Florida’s diverse landscape. “In the last few years, even in an economically depressed scenario, we have seen the growth and maturity of a number of organizations.” Passion is a driving force, as she prepares to further broadening ArtCenter/South Florida’s wings in the local arts community and beyond.
