On September 15th, the online auction of Art Helps Haiti started at www.kakokfoundation.org, the non-profit institution behind this humanitarian project. In there the public can bid for original artwork by more than twenty top notch artist from Europe, Miami and Haiti that have donated their work to raise funds for an ambitious humanitarian help project in Ile à Vache in Haiti.
Bids will be admitted until October 8th at midnight and the exhibition and live auction will be held on October 9th at CCEMiami in Coral Gables. The works are being offered at a much lower price than the actual market price in order to expedite the fundraising.
Participating artists are: Albert Coma Bau, América Sánchez, Andre Eugène, Bhakti Baxter, César Trasobares, Edouard Duval-Carrie F.M.G., Flora Cohen, Francesc Arumí, Jacques Halbert , Javier Mariscal, Javier Velasco, Juan Olivares, Lynne G. Gelfman, Manel Esclusa, Maria Cremades, Miralda, Moisés Mahiques, Pedro Portal, Pierrot Barra, Purvis Young, Ruperto Cabrera, Sabala, Vicenta Casañ, Ximo Amigó and Yamandú Canosa.
Kakok Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 2005 and based in Miami that aims to better the lives of the people of Ile à Vache by financing the construction of a clinic and school in the village of Kakok. The clinic has been operating since 2002 and the school opened its doors in 2005. Funds collected with the effort Art Helps Haiti will allow Kakok to expand its help operations on the island both in the school and the clinic with improvements and repairs that include the construction of a maternity room with adequate hygienic conditions, medicine for mental heath patients, the establishment of a satellite Internet network and low cost computers for both the clinic and school, beach cleanup and the purchase and training on the use of solar stoves so the tree canopy can be reestablished. Kakok is also looking for funding to purchase LifeStraw water filters to provide clean and bacteria free water to the areas residents.
