The international art world’s favorite winter meeting place. The third edition of Art Basel Miami Beach will take place from December 2 to 5, 2004. America’s most important art show is the favorite winter meeting place of the international art world. From a record number of 530 applications, the Selection Committee chose 180 galleries from the U.S., Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa to showcase works by over one thousand 20th and 21st century artists. 97% of last year’s exhibitors re-applied for this year’s show. There will be special sections devoted to one-person shows of young  artists, young galleries in shipping containers converted into exhibition spaces, stands with new works of art, a Video Lounge, and art projects in public spaces. With 40 newly  admitted galleries augmenting the already wide variety of art on exhibition, this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach promises the most star-studded line-up yet. An exciting program of special exhibitions, visits to private collections, crossover events, and Art Basel Conversations with personalities from the international art world round out the wide-ranging program on offer to visitors to Art Basel Miami Beach.

Art Kids
The premier day care center for children with parents visiting Art Basel Miami Beach, will be comprised of a series of art related programs for children that will span from December 2 – 5, 2004. Art Basel will partner with Art Nexus and The Miami Children’s Museum to bring this wonderful opportunity to the artists and collectors of tomorrow. Children enrolled in the program will participate in arts and crafts, art history and story telling. Children would be under the supervision of the well-trained staff of The Miami Children’s Museum

Exhibition and event program

Art Galleries: 175 of the world’s leading art galleries for modern and contemporary art from North America, Latin America, Europe, South Africa and Asia will display 20th and 21st century art works. Painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, print, photography, film, performance, video and digital art by more than 1000 artists. Art Statements: A Window to the Future of Art

Fifteen young artists from eight countries will be presented to a large international public in the special Art Statements sector of the international Art Basel Miami Beach art show. Art Statements offers young art a specially priced platform that brings the artists and their galleries to the attention of an international audience of curators, collectors, and the media. Visitors are encouraged to make discoveries and experience fascinating encounters with the work of the youngest generation of artists.

Art Nova: A Special Sector Creates a Sensation

For this year’s edition of Art Nova sector, 22 galleries were selected. These galleries will present new works by two to four of their artists. Art Nova offers visitors an opportunity for fascinating encounters with works fresh from studios around the globe. This special sector is also an ideal platform for sounding out current trends in art.

Art Positions: Cutting-Edge Art in Containers

The special sector Art Positions is once again an attractive part of the international art show this year. 20 cutting edge galleries will be showing their work in shipping containers converted into exhibition spaces. Art Positions offers the participating galleries an interesting, inexpensive platform on which to present their cutting-edge program. During the Happy Hour at sundown, interesting DJs are on the job. Art Video Lounge: lounge with comprehensive program of contemporary video art. Rotunda of Public Library Miami Beach, Collins Park (projections and videotheque).
