Soledad Arias. Like You I Forgot From Apr 14th through May 31st, 2007The new exhibition at Alejandra von Hartz Gallery features Argentinean artist Soledad Arias in a solo show entitled Like You I Forgot. This exhibit presents a body of new work that addresses the relevance of remembering as a personal and social vehicle to responsibility, healing and awareness Arias describes the project as follows: “Like you I forgot lingers like a whispered private thought, words are pronounced in the first person, thus provoking a personal identification for the audience. This phrase creates in a short lapse of time, a visual delay, leaving the passers-by with a thought to ponder.” By means of parallel narratives Arias makes use of photography, text, sound and light, and in this way succeeds in exposing the most intimate remains of emotional experience. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Soledad Arias, lives and works in New York City. Arias attended the School of Visual Arts in NYC where she completed her BFA and MFA. Her work has been exhibited at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, Jersey City Museum, Socrates Sculpture Park, Articule Gallery in Montreal, El Museo del Barrio in New York City, The Art Museum of the Americas in Washington, and the Bronx Museum of the Arts among others.
