Adamar Fine Arts will exhibit never before seen original works that show how Warhol developed a concept through to the final silkscreen. The gallery will have two of Warhol’s printers who worked as printers for Warhol discuss their involvement and experience in the studio and lecture on the topic. This process is what this exhibit is about- how Warhol created a practice that was powerful, mysterious and straight forward all at once. Examples of unique drawings, collages, and the final prints will illustrate how an image was built. Commenting on his use of screen printing, Warhol once stated, “Isn’t life a series of images that change as they repeat themselves?”
Prior to the Pop explosion, art was assumed to be something highbrow. Derived from popular culture, Pop Art revolutionized the art scene beginning in the late 1950s and Pop artists loved the banal. From telephones to soup cans, what made things “Pop” was their every day flavor and familiarity. The world of Pop that engaged Warhol and the other Pop artists of his time was distinctly American, and reflected the burgeoning commercialism and vitality of the country. Works such as the Warhol’s famous soup can series, which the artist showed at a sell-out exhibition at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York in 1964 and with Galerie Sonnabend in Paris in May 1965 will be shown along side more contemporary works from Longo and Alex Katz.
