Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Museum of Art + Design (MOAD) is honored to present Impact and Legacy: 50 Years of the CINTAS Foundation, an exhibition encompassing 50 years of the foundation’s support of Cuban-born artists, writers, architects, and composers working outside of Cuba. The exhibition is organized and curated by the Museum and includes over 160 works spanning five decades from within the foundation’s collection. Impact and Legacy is the capstone to the Museum’s season at the College’s flagship institution dedicated to the presentation and exhibition of visual art and design (housed at the National Historic Landmark Freedom Tower at Miami Dade College in Downtown Miami). The Museum is free and open to the public.
As the first large-scale exhibition of the CINTAS Fellows Collection, Impact and Legacy will highlight CINTAS Fellows from all eras and include works from the Foundation’s expansive collection. MDC Museum of Art + Design, stewards of the CINTAS Fellows Collection, is composed of works by CINTAS Fellows (the Foundation’s annual competition and fellowship award administered by the Museum every October). To date, the Collection has grown to over 400 works and represents how CINTAS Fellows continue to exemplify the contributions and impact that artists of Cuban descent have made over the past 50 years. Past visual arts fellows include Jose Bedia, Félix González-Torres, Carlos Alfonzo, Teresita Fernandez, Carmen Herrera, Anthony Goicolea, Luis Guispert, Jillian Mayer, Ernesto Oroza, Andres Serrano and Maria Martínez-Cañas. “These CINTAS Fellows are represented in major museums, important private and corporate collections, as well as [being] recipients of the Pulitzer Prize, Guggenheim, NEA and Obie Awards. They have exhibited at the Venice Biennale, they have been awarded Rockefeller and Fulbright Residencies, Latin Grammy nominations and many more.” -Hortensia Sampedro, President of CINTAS Foundation.
In support of Impact and Legacy, the museum will host a lecture and discussion by Rachel Weiss (Latin American Art scholar and Professor of Arts Administration and Policy at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago) on Saturday, May 10, at 1:00p.m. , limited seating available.

About the CINTAS Fellowship Program
The CINTAS Fellowship Program encourages creative development in architecture, literature, music composition and the visual arts. The Foundation was established with funds from the estate of Oscar B. Cintas (1887-1957), the former Cuban ambassador to the United States, a prominent industrialist and patron of the arts. In June of 2011, the CINTAS Foundation entered into an extended loan to MDC’s Museum of Art + Design of the CINTAS Fellows Collection, comprised of nearly 400 pieces by artists of Cuban descent living outside Cuba who have received prestigious CINTAS Fellowships, awarded since 1963. www.cintasfoundation.org
