DNM kicks off its season with a main stage concert featuring Water’s Edge, the Long Walk, Stories of the Seashore, exploring human relationships through time at the dynamic intersection of Land and Sea. This Cinematic World Premiere from Artistic Director Hannah Baumgarten will capture the imagination of children and adults alike with whimsy, passion, poetry and athleticism. Water’s Edge touches on our common experiences at and nostalgia for the Oceanside through the interconnected stories of seven people whose lives cross while visiting the beach. Are they reliving one life, danced through time, or simply portraying timeless stories familiar to all of us? Set in this delicate crossroad, which is such an important hallmark of our community here in Miami, architect/set designer Elizabeth Camargo teams up with lighting designer Michael Marrocco to transform the Little Haiti Center stage into a natural seashore.
FIU Theatre Artistic Director Marilyn Skow returns to create evocative costumes and long – time musical collaborator Federico Bonacossa generates a soundscape to bring the beach into the theater. This is the second chapter of Il Mare, a full-length evening of ocean – themed dances to premiere in February 2014.
Co-Director Diego Salterini contributes to the evening’s events with his own World Premiere: Nocturnus, a series of dramatic vignettes, set to some of the most iconic works of classical music from Beethoven to Debussy. These odes to the glorious night, the moon, the stars and the heavens above, showcase the dramatic depth and athletic prowess of the Ensemble through Salterini’s luscious movement and intricate partnering.
This sublime lineup of new work from Miami’s foremost contemporary choreographers features the world – class dancers of the Ensemble, hailing from Cuba to California, and will be a night of dance to remember.
