Undercurrent Arts, located at 2563 North Miami Avenue in Wynwood Art District, is opening a solo exhibition by Ramón Williams titled Trace Crop Off. According to the artist “Things surrounding people may speak louder of them than the people themselves. In Trace, as in watching a film, I imagine a number of circumstances and media involved in the act of tracing. These marks, irreducible to the scatological order, show their condition as a vestige of make-up, surveillance, and recycling global culture while partaking of the calligraphic spontaneity of the universe.”
“Since most of what we see and believe is conditioned by the limits of our visual span, Crop invites to a perceptive edition of the world as “figurative text.” A text whose richness remains concealed in an eye of social routine, on the periphery of a retina, suckled by the hazards of corporate advertising and political or religious propaganda. Plant the borders on this field of the visible and crop a particular vision that feeds a more complete picture of the world in the variability of its appearances.”
“A semiotic subject is not sustainable by itself; it requires maintenance to keep its currency and communicative power. Off explores the detachment of the referent, and its absence as evidence. It also investigates the way an image of a ruined symbol might activate the memory of a primordial meaning that it contains, beyond the manipulations of the janitor historically in charge.”

Undercurrent Arts is presenting this month the exhibition Personal Jesus featuring the work of Hilary White and Alejandro Mendoza. The two artists represented in this exhibition come from two completely different backgrounds and perspectives – Hilary White was born in Texas and lives and works in Philadelphia, PA; Alejandro Mendoza was born in Cuba and lives and works in Miami, FL. They come together in this exhibition because they both explore the conflict between reality in our contemporary world and faith in something greater. 
Undercurrent Arts, located in Wynwood Art District, is presenting the solo exhibition of Deon Blackwell, Body of Salt. This installation is composed of a massing of "chandeliers" created from clay and salt that are suspended at multiple heights. The clay forms a symbiotic relationship with the salt wherein the salt is applied to the ceramic material and breaks down the clay body from the inside out; much like cancer does to a human. The re-growth of the salt crystals after their previous form has been destroyed is a balance to the destruction that the salt causes. 
Undercurrent Arts presents a solo exhibition by Frank Cole titled Violent Local Maps. The series is comprised of Florida map paintings depicting faintly exaggerated, ill-advised, man-made, landscape recovery projects and natural weather events that reflect our fears. The Florida map / image becomes a gestalt of both the fear of the uncontrollable and man’s folly of trying to dominate or contain the environment in ill-advised, conceited ways.
