Opening reception: May 11, 2013, 6:00 p.m.
From May 11 through May 25, 2013.
Robert Fontaine Gallery presents new works by Australian artist Anthony Lister in a solo exhibition entitled “Never Odd Or Even.” The opening reception will be held Saturday, May 11 at 6 p.m. during Wynwood’s Second Saturday Art Walk.
Lister is most interested in breaking down the ideals of highbrow and lowbrow, calling graffiti art “the final frontier in true artistic integrity.” He says, “I’m disguising myself as a fine artist until the revolution is fully here.” This notion is demonstrated in his recent series of ballerina paintings, which will be on display during “Never Odd Or Even.” These fluid motion paintings are at once painterly and delicate, while also high energy, confrontational, and bold.
As an Australian artist, Lister is concerned with the inherent prisoner and crime culture of his homeland, noting that he’s constantly talking about social conditions, especially the lack of guidance amongst males today.
He claims to have “multiple creative personality disorder” and works with a variety of aliases on street art around the world. With “Never Odd Or Even,” we can expect both gallery paintings and large-scale mural art in Wynwood.
“His works live on the street and bleed harmoniously into the formal contemporary gallery setting,” says gallery director Robert Fontaine. “To have the opportunity to showcase Lister’s work is hugely important for both the gallery and the Miami art scene.”
