Grammy award-winning Brazilian recording star Djavan kicks off his US summer tour at the Adrienne Arsht Center, located at 1300 Biscayne Boulevard on June 6th, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. The concert will take place in the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall.
Marking his first South Florida appearance since his sold-out 2001 concert, Djavan will perform selections from his recent release Matizes in a concert celebrating a 32-year career that is comprised of 18 albums and an outpouring of songs recorded by everyone from Al Jarreau, Carmen McRae, The Manhattan Transfer, and Eliane Elias to Gal Costa, Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, and Stevie Wonder. For this performance Djavan will interpret his most popular hits including Oceano and Eu Te Devoro.
For his US tour, Djavan will be accompanied on stage by 7 musicians, including his two sons, João Viana (drums) and Max Viana (vocals, acoustic and electric guitar), as well as Renato Fonseca (keyboard), Marcelo Martins (sax, flute, and vocals), Walmir Gil (trumpet, flugelhorn, and vocals), François de Lima (trombone and vocals), and Sergio Carvalho (bass).
