Jazz bassist John Goldsby will headline the next Jazz at Wolfson Presents concert on Wednesday, January 23, at noon. The popular concert series is held at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami.
An acclaimed musician, bandleader, composer, teacher, clinician and author, John Goldsby has been solo bassist with the Grammy Award-winning Westdeutscher Rundfunk Big Band (the Cologne Radio Big Band) since 1994. Before that, he was a regular in the vibrant jazz scene in New York City, where he lived and worked.
Goldsby’s recordings as a bandleader include: “The Innkeeper’s Gun,” with Jacob Duncan and Jason Tiemann; “Space for the Bass”; and “The Visit,” with Bill Dobbins. Goldsby, along with Peter Erskine and Bill Dobbins are also featured on the recording Cologne.
His recent concert work includes performances and recordings with John Scofield, Nicholas Payton, Lee Konitz, Randy Brecker, Roy Hargrove, Take 6, Chris Potter, Kurt Elling and Tom Harrell.
“What a unique opportunity this is to have John come to our campus,” says series director and MDC professor Dr. Michael Di Liddo. He is a special talent, a master bassist that has performed with many of the world’s finest musicians. His visit to MDC should not be missed.”
MDC’s Jazz at Wolfson Presents is sponsored by MDC’s Arts and Philosophy Department. The live monthly performances start in September and resume after the winter break through April. The concerts are free and open to the public.
