Basic Function
The Ballet Instructor will instruct 1-4 classes of ballet daily in a classroom/studio setting for children ages 11-14 from diverse backgrounds. The Ballet Instructor will be an engaging instructor that can successfully introduce ballet technique and terminology to non-dancers. Ideal candidate should have experience working with under resourced youth populations.
Ballet Instructor Responsibilities
• Teach1-4 classes per day, Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:30am – 3:30pm
• Serve as a role model to campers by demonstrating high standards of personal conduct
• Assure the safety of campers at all times in the classroom
• Assist with daily camper check in and check out
• Choreograph for the final camp presentation in consultation with the AileyCamp Director, AileyCamp Administrator and other faculty
• Provide AileyCamp Director with a schedule of proposed class content
• Participate in breakfast duty, lunch duty, free periods and general supervision of campers when not in classes or meetings
• Participate and supervise campers as directed on field trip days
• Participate in all rehearsal, preparation and day-of final performance activities as needed to support artistic staff
• Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings (3:30 – 4:30pm) and individual meetings with AileyCamp Director
• Provide AileyCamp Director with a written evaluation of student’s progress.
• Dress in the AileyCamp staff uniform and in a neat and clean manner insuring clothing and/or costumes do not contain inappropriate references for children (alcohol, drugs, profanity, etc.)
• Attend a mandatory staff orientation on June 19, 20, 21, 2019
• Voluntarily participate in the background checks required for employment including but not limited to federal and sex offender checks and finger printing
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 3 years’ previous experience, teaching middle school aged youth
• Prior experience in establishing creative environments and opportunities of creative expression for youth
• Must be able to identify with and inspire youth from a variety of cultural backgrounds and learning environments
• Must have exceptional verbal and written skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate well to a diverse population, and work as part of a team with other creative staff members
• Demonstrate ability to take initiative, work under pressure and manage multiple tasks with completing deadlines in a self-directed, prioritized and calm manner
• Flexibility to meet changing needs and priorities as they occur
• Bilingual in English, Spanish or Creole preferred
