RLA Conservation, Inc. seeks to hire a full-time conservator of sculpture or architectural finishes to be based in our Miami, Florida studio. The ideal candidate will hold an M.A. or M.S. in historic preservation or materials conservation and possess excellent hand skills, critical thinking abilities, and a facility for verbal and written communication. This is a new position that will help us serve our ever-growing roster of local, national, and international clients. It requires team work and overnight travel.
Founded in 2008 by Rosa Lowinger, a Fellow of the American Institute for Conservation and a practitioner with 30+ years of experience, RLA is a boutique firm with offices in Los Angeles and Miami. We do not hire frequently, and this is a rare opportunity to be part of a team that enjoys a stellar international reputation for conservation of outdoor sculpture, architectural finishes, decorative arts, and contemporary three-dimensional artwork. The position is for full-time permanent work. We will also consider candidates who wish to apply for a one-year post-graduate fellowship.
Key Responsibilities:Preparation of condition reports, treatment proposals, and additional related documentation.Hands-on treatments of a wide range of collections, with a specialty in modern and contemporary.Outdoor sculpture conservation and maintenance, including supervision of skilled technicians.Conducting of collections surveys.Liaising with museum and private clients, including preparation of cost estimates in conjunction with lead conservators.Triage and on-site collection recovery as needed.Additional responsibilities as directed and supervised by the Senior Conservator
Qualification Requirements:
Postgraduate degree in Conservation of Fine Arts or Architecture, specializing in objects, sculpture or historic buildings. Equivalent experience will be considered if the candidate is a Professional Associate of AIC or holds an MFA in a related field.Ability to work independently and contribute as an effective member of a teamExcellent verbal and written communication skills in English.Digital photography proficiency, computer proficiency (Mac format, MS Word, Excel, etc)U.S. work permitActive driver’s licenseAbility to work outdoors, on ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and be physically capable of carrying tools and equipment.
Additionally Desired:
Spanish language proficiency.Strong background in modern and contemporary art.
