Miami Chamber Players inaugurate The Miami Bach Society’s 2012 – 2013 Season

Coral Gables Congregational Church. October 21, 2012. 3:00 p.m.

The Miami Bach Society opens its 2012-2013 concert season with a performance of an exciting new ensemble, the Miami Chamber Players. Its principal players include young, award-winning musicians who perform with symphony orchestras and universities in South Florida. Founded by Venezuelan concert pianist and educator, Alfredo Vidal, the ensemble had its impressive debut at the recent World Music Festival at Florida International University.

The Miami Chamber Players are part of a new wave of performers who are emerging as a source of local chamber groups, who feel as comfortable playing Bach as well as Brahms or Berlioz. And they are as equally accomplished in all of these performances. “They are filling the void left in our community, after the dissolution of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra,” according to Kathy Gaubatz, executive director of the Miami Bach Society.

The concert includes two of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos #’s three and six as well as two sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord also by Bach. Mikaho Somekawa will perform sonata’s numbers two and three with Robert Heath on the harpsichord. Ms. Somekawa, a former student of Wieland Kuijken in Brussels, arrived in South Florida in 2010 to teach at Florida International University’s School of Music. Since that time, she has been enriching local chamber ensembles as well.

Tickets are $30 general admission and $40 preferred seating. Students 18 years old and younger are admitted free of charge. College students, graduate students and New World Symphony Fellows pay $5. Tickets can be ordered by phone at 305.669.1376 or on line at www.miamibachsociety.org
