Yvette Forbes’ book Testimonies: Issues of Life depicts the stories of nine biblical women. The author gives accounts of their triumphs, their disappointments, their mistakes and their pain. Her book tells the story of how these women overcame their trials and how they weathered life’s storms. She will be discussing her book on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center in Ft. Lauderdale.
Consider the story of Rizpah in the book of Samuel. Her two sons were killed because of the sins of their father, King Saul. She watched in anguish as they died by hanging. Eve, the first woman, suffered from the murder of one son, Abel, at the hands of her other son, Cain. And Mary, the mother of Jesus, witnessed the brutal crucifixion of her son. In her book, Yvette Forbes brings these women to life, sharing their emotions with the reader. “These women will become your heroes,” she says.
