Miami-Dade County Auditorium and ARCA Images present Exquisita Agonía, (Exquisite Agony), by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz, a story of love and loss, grief and romantic obsession. When opera singer Millie’s husband Lorenzo, a famous classical musician, dies in a car crash, her grief leads her to a doctor’s office, in a desperate search for the recipient of her husband’s heart. Millie asks the heart surgeon to pass along a letter to the transplant recipient, and so begins her quest to find fragments of love in the young man who received the gift of life with Lorenzo’s heart. Cruz’s play is a complex drama that explores the question, “What is the nature of the human heart?” as Millie and her family confront the past in order to move forward.
Nilo Cruz, artistic director of Arca Images, won the 2003 Pulitzer Prize in Drama for his play, Anna in the Tropics, making him the first Latino to be so honored. He is author of more than 13 plays and four translations.
