The inspiration for Need You Now also came from many of the “red flags” brought to the attention of regulators, including those described in Harry Markopolos’ book No One Would Listen: A True Financial Thriller. Markopolos did an early investigation of Madoff’s activities and passed his analysis onto the SEC, but no one paid attention.
