From Dec 16 through 22, 2011.
Young Goethe In Love begins in 1772. Just coming of age and passionate Johann Goethe aspires to be a poet; but after failing his law exams, he is sent by his father to a sleepy provincial court to mend his ways. When he falls for a Lotte, a local girl, his romantic and artistic instincts must war with his duty to family and the law.
The young lovers are unaware that her father has already promised Lotte’s hand to another man, as the film takes both comedy-of-errors and poignant turns. Director Philipp Stölzl returns to the wellspring of Romanticism and conjures up a beguiling and refreshingly innocent period romance. Variety says it “Expertly alternates romance, humor and drama” and the Hollywood Reporter says, “The film is genuinely seductive by its many period charms, fine actors and lovely landscapes.” It is unrated, and in German with English subtitles.
Young Goethe In Love is a film by Philipp Stölzl starring Alexander Fehling, Miriam Stein, Moritz Bleibtreu, Volker Bruch, Burghart Klaussner, Henry Hubchen. Screenplay by Christoph Müller, Philipp Stölzl, Alexander Dydyna. Producers Christoph Müller and Helge Sasse
