The Miami Short Film Festival is celebrating ten years of bringing quality short film productions to Miami. To celebrate this milestone the festival is starting with a series of events every month leading to the main event this November. In keeping true to its mission and philosophy that today’s short films lead to tomorrow’s world-renowned filmmakers, the 2010 festival lived up to its promise of supporting local and international filmmakers.
This year, the festival will be held at a new venue: the historical Colony Theatre in Miami Beach. Over the past ten years MsFF has been accepting and promoting short films from all over the world. William Vela, the founder of MsFF believes that art can be expressed in many ways. “I am proud to be a part of a team that is privy to seeing such diverse expressions of art through film. As we sit to review entries that are submitted each year, I become more convinced that we are truly migrating towards globalization, not only in Hollywood, but around the world”.
In 2010, MsFF received over five hundred submissions from Australia, Iran, Japan, Mexico, and Argentina to name a few. Among the celebrities that attended last year’s event was the documentary director, Michael Moore and David Frankel, director of The Devil Wears Prada. The festival’s awards are also becoming one of the world’s most coveted prizes in the category of shorts.
