St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, located at 2555 NE Savanna Rd. in Jensen Beach, FL is presenting a special concert featuring Maestro James Edward "Jim" Goettsche, principal organist for the Liturgical Ceremonies of the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, and honorary organist of the Basilica of Saint Frances of Rome in the Roman Forum. He also serves as a professor of organ studies at the Conservatory of Music in Frosinone, Italy.
A native of Los Angels, California and descendant of a German family emigrated from Schleswing Holstein, Goettsche studied organ at San Francisco State College. In 1961, he was invited by Fernando Germani to continue his musical education in Rome, where he graduated in 1968 with degrees in organ and composition from the Rome Conservatory of Music.
Goettsche has been featured in hundred of concerts, radio and television engagements, and as guest conductor of organ master classes in Italy and abroad. His repertory includes compositions from the most important periods of organ literature, with a certain preference for the music of J. S. Bach, whose complete works he has often performed in concert. In 1985, Goettsche presented Bach’s compositions for organ on 10 consecutive days during the Bach festival in Frankfurt, Germany. Elsewhere, he performed entire concert programs selected by the audience. His book on Bach’s organ music has been printed by the Assessorato alla Cultura in Padua and by the Amici dell’Organo in Como and Breccia. He also performed the complete works for organ by Cesar Franck and recorded the collection for Vatican Radio.
