Church of the Palms. March 2nd, 2008. 4:00 p.m.An Die Musik Concert Series presents Schubertiade, a recreation of a musical gathering in Schubert's time, by a six-member ensemble, all music faculty members from Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. The concert will take place at the Church of the Palms, located at 1960 North Swinton Avenue in Delray Beach. The concert series, "An die Musik" (In Praise of Music) will continue with the presentation of Schubertiade, a term that may be unfamiliar to some music lovers. This is a concert that takes the form of interplay of music with the spoken and sung words of Schubert, as well as his instrumental music.
The six-member ensemble, all music faculty members from Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. This concert format was popular in the homes of the wealthy during the later years of Schubert's brief life. The ensemble consists of two narrators, two pianists, a 'cellist, a soprano and a baritone. Letters and poetry are read, dating from Schubert's early years as a chorister in the famous Vienna Boy's Choir. The program, about an hour in length, concludes with the ensemble's singing of the song "An die Musik". The audience is invited to join in the singing of this famous song, either in German or in English (Music and text will be provided).
