My House is Your House dance-drama explores the functionality of individuals within a unit such as a family or a community. The first act describes the underlying tension in group dynamics during turbulent times and power struggles. The second act lightens the atmosphere as the characters celebrate their role in the community by soaking up the glitz and glam of South Beach Miami, Florida.
This show is a part of the HEALhome program, formerly known as H.E.A.L.: A Place to Call Home. HEALhome is now a multifaceted art-intervention and community outreach program that explores the concept of home. The overarching goal of the program is to give a creative voice to the displaced and homeless population and facilitate community dialogue, understanding and resolution.
Charmille Walters, Artistic Director of Rhythmic Rapture, conducted master classes in Caribbean Dance and movement composition on the theme of home as a continuation of a cultural exchange in partnership with Florida International University’s Latin American and Caribbean Center and The Arts Office Net Inc. My House is Your House premiered at Dr. Armando de Re Municipal Theater in the City of Suzano, Sau Paulo, Brazil on May 29th, 2008.
