Bill Cosford Cinema. January 18th, 2008. 7:30 p.m.
The Bill Cosford Cinema at the University of Miami, located at 1111 Memorial Drive in Coral Gables, is presenting a night of film screening and discussion with author Paul Auster, who will be presenting his newest film The Inner Life of Martin Frost to be followed by a discussion about the process of screenwriting, the role of the muse and the creative life of a writer. The author will sign copies of his books, including his newest novel, Travels in the Scriptorium and the screenplay of Martin Frost, published by Picador in a paperback original edition that includes an in-depth interview with Auster about the genesis and making of the film.
Following Paul Auster’s now legendary collaborations with Wayne Wang on Smoke, for which Auster won the Independent Spirit Award for best first screenplay and the Silver Bear from the Berlin Film Festival and Blue in the Face, which he co-directed, as well as his solo debut as writer and director of Lulu on the Bridge, an official selection of the Cannes Film Festival, The Inner Life of Martin Frost represents Auster’s most original and captivating work in the movies to date.
The Inner Life of Martin Frost first appeared in abbreviated narrative form in Paul Auster’s bestselling novel The Book of Illusions. It’s a philosophical mystery that asks us to question the manner in which we define reality and the way we choose to see the world around us. Like much of Auster’s work (The New York Trilogy, The Brooklyn Follies, The Music of Chance), this witty and haunting parable tells a wonderful story and also functions as a testament to the pleasures of stortytelling.
