altThe Miami Design Preservation League and Miami Beach Botanical Garden presents a lecture and a photo presentation by Paula Fletcher.

The restored gardens at Hill Close, Warwick, saved by community preservationists, feature sixteen hedged Victorian pleasure gardens that have been reconstructed to capture the planting and personality of their original owners. The gardens date from the 1850s,  created as plots to be rented by local workers and tradesman who lived above their shops in town.

There are parallels with the preservation of Miami Beach’s Art Deco Historic District. Local people saved Hill Close Gardens from destruction and began a massive clearance and restoration effort to create a site of national importance. Hill Close Gardens are the only surviving group of detached Victorian pleasure garden plots with public access in the United Kingdom. Paula Fletcher is an MDPL Art Deco District tour guide, who also serves as a guide at Hill Close Gardens in England.
