Dying City, Pulitzer Prize Finalist of 2008, is a powerful thriller and a gripping, psychological drama. A year after her husband’s death in Iraq, Kelly, a young therapist, confronts his identical twin brother, who shows up at her apartment unannounced. At first it seems to be a story of a wife and brother left grieving after a soldier’s baffling death in Iraq, but as the layers are peeled away, we find it a tender, then shockingly raw and complex, portrait of three very different people.
Erin Joy Schmidt (Kelly) returns to work on the boards with her friend Ricky and the crew at Mosaic, after previously being seen here in Dead Man’s Cell Phone and heard in Talk Radio. Recent credits include: Reasons to Be Pretty at Gablestage, Summer Shorts 2008 & 2009, Mezzulah 1946 at Florida Stage, 4.48 Psychosis at Naked Stage, Chemical Imbalance and The Lion in Winter at Caldwell Theatre, Uncommon Women and Others and Tongue of a Bird at Women’s Theatre Project, and MIXTAPE, Some Girl(s) and Viva Bourgeois!, for which she is nominated for a Carbonell Award, at Mad Cat Theatre Company. Erin is also a proud acting company member at Mad Cat. She received her MFA in Acting from the Actors Studio Drama School in NYC where she worked for several years before moving back to South Florida. When not on stage, Erin is an Adjunct Professor of Theatre at Broward College.
Ricky Waugh (Craig, Peter) is a native of the Sunshine State and a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association. He will once again be working with Erin Joy Schmidt, whom he appeared with in Gablestage’s 2009 production of Reasons to be Pretty. He played Greg; a role which earned him a Carbonell Nomination for Best Actor. Ricky began his professional career in South Florida in The M Ensemble’s production of Medal of Honor Rag, and between 2005 and 2008 Mr. Waugh appeared in several productions at the PlayGround Theatre for Young Audiences in North Miami. You may have seen him most recently as Ben in The Dumb Waiter (The Promethean Theatre) in Davie. Some of Ricky’s other recent South Florida credits include: Bridegroom of Blowing Rock (Florida Stage), Betrayed (GableStage) Shinning City (Gablestage), and The Rant (New Theatre). In 2008, The Theatre League of South Florida honored him with The Silver Palm Award, for Outstanding Contribution, for his roles in two local productions; The Mission (New Theatre) and Two Sisters and a Piano (The Promethean Theatre). Also, you may remember seeing Ricky Waugh at The Mosaic Theatre in last year’s productions of In Darfur playing Dr. Carlos and In a Dark Dark House as Drew.
