Composition Notebook. Feb 26th and 27th, 2010. 8:00 p.m.
On Friday night, February 26th at 8:00 pm, Fly Away Balloon Theatre Company will debut their production Composition Notebook at The Islander Resort’s Conference Center in Islamorada, FL.
How the show came to be – a bit of history: Casey Dressler, the Founder and Artistic Director of “Fly Away Balloon Theatre Company,” sent out a call for creative types on Craig’s List in April of 2009.The first ‘meet and greet’ was scheduled for Monday, April 20th, 2009.Casey Dressler presented each person who attended the first meeting with their very own “Composition Notebook” and a pop art writing pen.
From that point on a group of talented artistic types from the South Florida theatrical community gathered at the Acting School of South Florida every Monday night from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.Original plays were written in each person’s “Composition Notebook” and read ‘out loud’ hence, a new theater company was born.The group followed a series of internal writer’s deadlines and met page length criteria for their original plays to be considered for the showcase. With their “Composition Notebooks” full of new original plays “Fly Away Balloon Theatre Company” decided to launch their first showcase in September 2009 and now is “taking off” and taking their show on the road with its debut performance in the Keys on February 26th and February 27th, 2010.
What makes “Composition Notebook” extraordinary is that the project is fueled by the actors and directors who wrote their very own material and are also performing in the showcase… The result – one of a kind, original plays which are humorous, uplifting, and upbeat!
Casey Dressler, Founder and Artistic Director of “Fly Away Balloon Theatre Company” is “a true conch” who grew up on the tiny islands that make up the Florida Keys. Casey received her acting training from New World School of The Arts in Miami as well as The Acting School of South Florida in Hollywood where she now works as a Registration Coordinator.Having appeared in over 20 stage productions, Casey is so happy to have formed “Fly Away Balloon Theatre Company” so she may continue her love of acting and writing.
“Composition Notebook” features Troy Davidson (playwright, actor); Casey Dressler (artistic director, playwright, actor); Robby Green (actor), Marilyn Gresh (actor); Erin Hurst (actor); Miriam Kulick (director, playwright, actor); Jordan Patriarca (playwright, actor); Cally White (actor) and Wendy White (director, playwright). The writers of “Composition Notebook” are Troy Davidson, Casey Dressler, Vanessa Garcia, Megan Casella Roth, Miriam Kulick, Jordan Patriarca and Wendy White.
