An Afternoon of Dance by Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida

Feb 21st, 2010. 2:00 p.m.

Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida, directed by Vladimir Issaev, will present an afternoon of delightful dance. For one day only, this vibrant young company will be performing in Boca Raton, presenting a mixed repertoire of contemporary and classical ballet. The diverse program is sure to have something for everyone, with a broad range of both ensemble pieces, as well as several pas de deuxs.

Two of the four seasons, Le Printemps and L’Autumn, from Vladimir Issaev’s “The Seasons,” will be performed to the music of Verdi, with each pas de deux a reflection of the mood and atmosphere of the season it represents. Also by Issaev are two ensemble pieces. Six girls dance to the piano music of Teresa Carreño in “Suite of Waltzes,” with each girl dancing a solo, as well as with the group. In contrast, “Taiko” employs a much larger ensemble, and the dancers move to a more ethnic, grounded Japanese drumbeat. In line with the more contemporary dancing, Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida is performing “En Trois Parties,” choreographed by Josée Garant, music by Aldemaro Romero. The company premiered this piece in the fall, with great success, and they are bringing it to Boca Raton in the second half of the season. The program includes “Le Spectre de la Rose,” which tells the story of a young girl who falls asleep and dreams of a rose. The ballet is almost 100 years old, choreographed by Micheal Fokine, and first performed in 1911 by the Ballet Russes. It was staged for Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida by George Zoritch of the Ballet Russes.

This performance is part of the Dance Series of the Winter/Spring 2010 Program sponsored by the City of Boca Raton and operated by the Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District. The Willow Theatre, nestled inside Sugar Sand Park in the heart of Boca Raton, provides a unique theatre experience in South Florida.
