Feb 5th, 2010. 7:30 p.m.
The Delray String Quartet continues its Sixth Season on February 5th at St. Thomas Episcopal Parish in Coral Gables. The theme of the evening will be Russian Winters to Broadway Blues, a diverse program presenting the music of Gershwin, Haydn, and Glazunov. Chilly Russian nights will seem far away from sunny Florida when listening to Glazunov’s quartet but Gershwin’s Lullaby will transport you directly to the heat of Times Square in the 30s.
Join Professor Richard Fleischman 30 minutes prior to the concert for a pre-concert lecture and friendly discussion of the music to be performed. Enjoy Amusing Anecdotes and Secret Scandals of the composers. Members of the quartet are violinist Mei Mei Luo, violinist Megan McClendon, violist Richard Fleischman, and cellist Claudio Jaffé.
Joining the quartet is Violinist Megan McClendon, who is a recent alumna of the New World Symphony in Miami Beach under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. She holds a Bachelor of Music and Graduate Performance Diploma from Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and a Master of Music degree from San Francisco Conservatory of Music. As a recitalist and chamber musician, she has performed with artists such as Robert Mann, Jorja Fleezanis, Todd Philips, and Paul Hersh. Megan grew up in Dallas, Texas, but her performances have taken her all around the country and in Europe. Currently she is a member of the Florida Grand Opera and a faculty member at Miami Dade College.
