From Dec 27th, 2009 through Jan 3rd, 2010.
South Florida’s holiday season, already warmer and brighter than the rest of the country, gets a cultural shot in the arm with the return of the Florida Dance Association’s second edition of WinterFest at venues in Miami and Miami Beach. Local, national and international professional and student dancers, choreographers, teachers and dance aficionados join together for this week-long celebration of dance that includes public performances and events, as well as an intense series of master classes and workshops.
The festival opens on Sunday, December 27th with Florida Dances, a long-time program that focuses on showcasing the work of FDA member dance companies, schools and independent dance artists from the Panhandle to the Keys.
WinterFest 2009 continues with Bill Young / Colleen Thomas and Dancers, who return to South Florida on Wednesday, December 30th at 8:00 p.m. to the Colony Theatre. Another highlight of WinterFest 2009 is the closing concert on Sunday, January 3rd, 2010 at 7:00 p.m., which features the award-winning San Francisco-based mixed-ability company AXIS Dance Company.
At the same closing night concert, Wally Cardona and Rahel VonMoos make their Miami debut in A Light Conversation, an expressive duet for mature dancers, and the portrait of a grown-up relationship, set to a score based on an edition of Melvyn Bragg’s Radio 4 Show, In Our Time.
WinterFest is produced by the Florida Dance Association, a nonprofit service organization and dance presenter that has provided leadership, information and services to dance artists, organizations and audiences throughout Florida for 35 years.
