The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, the latest milestone in Miami’s emergence as an international arts destination, has completed construction of its permanent home in the Miami Design District. The construction completion sets into motion a six month timeline in which the museum will ready the building’s galleries, interior spaces and sculpture garden for the public opening on December 1, 2017 in advance of Art Basel Miami Beach. Leading up to the opening, the museum continues its dynamic public and education offerings, comprising free public events, adult and youth education programs, and community outreach.
“When we open in December, the new ICA Miami will instantly become a gathering place for our diverse community, a cultural destination in the heart of Miami, and a platform for the most exciting artists of our time,” says ICA Miami Director Ellen Salpeter. “Best of all, admission to ICA Miami will remain free to the public so audiences from all corners of our community can enjoy our new building and sculpture garden – and the content and programs that lie within.”
The first U.S. construction project designed by Spain’s Aranguren & Gallegos Arquitectos, ICA Miami’s permanent home will more than double the museum’s exhibition space, including 20,000 square feet of flexible galleries on three floors, including new areas for educational and community programming, and a 15,000-square-foot sculpture garden. With construction complete, the current phase of ICA Miami’s preparations for the opening include finalizing interiors, installing works of art, and outfitting the sculpture garden with inviting landscaping and seating.
