Speed-The-Plow. From Aug 15th through Sept 13th, 2009.
GableStage at the Biltmore announced their final production of the 2008-2009 Season, David Mamet’s Speed-The-Plow, which opened on August 15th and will run through September 13th, 2009.
Revived to great acclaim on Broadway last season, this hilarious, acid-etched satire depicts Hollywood as a culture as corrupt as the society it claims to reflect. Two greedy studio executives are set to pitch a can’t-lose deal to their boss when an unlikely obstacle, in the form of a seductive temp secretary, creates unexpected complications.
The New York Times raved that Speed-The-Plow is “A world-class roller coaster ride! Pursues its corkscrew course at such velocity that your instinct is to check yourself for whiplash!” – and the New York Post exclaimed, “I laughed and laughed! The play is crammed with wonderful, dazzling, brilliant lines!”
David Mamet is the author of plays, screenplays, novels and essays, and has directed ten films. He received Tony Award nominations for Glengarry Glen Ross and Speed-the-Plow, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Glengarry Glen Ross. As a screenwriter, he received Oscar nominations for The Verdict and Wag the Dog. He is also the creator and producer of the television series The Unit.
The play features two Carbonell Award-winning actors, Paul Tei and Gregg Weiner, both of whom have appeared numerous times at GableStage. In the third role, Amy Elane Anderson will be making her GableStage debut. Direction is by Joseph Adler, set design is by Sean McClelland, lights are by Omar Martos, costumes are by Ellis Tillman, and the stage manager is Kristen Pieski.
