Free Screening at Miami Beach Botanical Garden June 28th, 2007The Miami Beach Botanical Garden is paying tribute to the World Refugee Day with a free screening of the documentary 818 Tong Shan Road on June 28th, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. 818 Tong Shan Road is the story of Pedro Lievendag and his family who in 1941 escaped from Germany and found refuge in the distant Ghetto of Shanghai. From 1941 to 1947, Shanghai was their home-house together with twenty thousand Jewish refugees. Before leaving for the USA and later Argentina Pedro Lievendag and his family were declared displaced persons. Sixty years later, Marlene Lievendag directed and produced this documentary about traveling with her father to rediscover the original places, and rekindle his childhood experiences, thus recuperating part of the history that marked the destiny of their family. 818 Tong Shan Road was filmed in Argentina, Germany and China over six years. World Refugee Day is celebrated in more than 100 countries. The United Nations General Assembly designed June 20th as World Refugee Day to recognize and celebrate the contribution of refugees throughout the world For more information, please call: 786.449.7549
