David McConnell. Recent Paintings and Video Installation From May 12th through Jun 23rd, 2007Abba Fine Art opens the exhibition “Polysymphonic Sun” a gallery presentation of recent works by artist, record producer and experimental composer David McConnell. Most noted for his collaborative and controversial work on acclaimed record albums by artists such as Folk Implosion and the late Elliott Smith, McConnell is iconic in the indie music world but is most passionate about the works that will be installed in Abba Fine Art. There will be an opening reception with the artist on Saturday, May 12th, 2007 from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. This exhibition features paintings and video which were created during the period when McConnell had decided to leave the recording industry in Los Angeles to focus on painting and installation art. Executed with self-taught, non-traditional methods McConnell’s paintings consist of oils and some mixed media on self-stretched, glue sized canvas. Abstract layered compositions with thick painterly textures took McConnell a couple of years to complete and have pieces of his musical scores written into the canvases in code. He has explained this by saying “the music came to me as I was painting. A truer music than I have ever written and it felt like part of the paintings.” It was that music which became the score for the 19-minute-long video installation also entitled,
