Miami Art Museum From Jan 16th through Mar 11th, 2007Miami Art Museum is presenting The Short Films of Jesper Just. The series is curated by René Morales and screenings will take place at the MAM Video Gallery, a space that responds to the impact that video art has had on the contemporary scene. The masculine ideal has been represented for centuries as the strong, silent type from Hercules to Humphrey Bogart. Danish artist Jesper Just’s short films uncover the emotional depths that lie hidden beneath such stoic surfaces. “Just taps the universal power of music in lushly filmed, seductive works that challenge the traditional notion that masculinity is incompatible with external displays of emotion,” MAM Assistant Curator René Morales said. “The three short films on view in MAM’s Video Gallery exemplify his critically acclaimed mix of tenderness, humor, and tongue-in-cheek incongruity.” Jesper Just was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1974, where he continues to live and work. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Moderna Museet, Stockholm; Weiss Studio, New York and Herning Kunstmuseum, Denmark among others.
