Passages at Reed Savage Gallery

an exhibition by Dan and Arlo Namingha From Dec 2nd, 2006 through Jan 27th, 2007Reed Savage Gallery in Coral Gables is opening the exhibition Passages by father and son artists Dan and Arlo Namingha with a reception to take place on December 10th, 2006. Dan Namingha is a internationally known contemporary artist whose works are in significant public and private collections throughout the world. Dan was born and raised on the Hopi reservation located in northeastern Arizona. Drawing and painting was a natural part of Hopi childhood. It gave him a way to express his strong feelings about culture and environment leading to a path of creative freedom. Dan has had one-man exhibitions at the Fogg Art Museum, Boston, MA. The Carnegie Mellon, Pittsburgh, PA. The Palm Springs Art Museum, Palm Springs, CA. and many others. In 1983 an exhibition of his works traveled throughout Europe for four years sponsored by the United States Information Agency. Two documentary films have been made on his work and aired on PBS. In 2000 Abrams publishing of New York published, “The Art of Dan Namingha” with text written by Thomas Hoving, the former director of the Metropolitan Museum. Arlo Namingha, a Tewa-Hopi, was born in Santa Fe and raised in San Juan Pueblo, New Mexico. His life as an artist began when he spent time in the studio of his father, Dan Namingha. Working quietly in his father’s studio he learned both by observation and action. His fascination with three-dimensional form lead to his studies in drafting and design applying these lessons to his ever evolving creations and sculptures.
