From July 28th through July 29th, 2006In their 58th year of performance, The Four Freshmen continue to bring their unique brand of vocal harmony to audiences. Their show is a mixture of new arrangements of jazz standards and familiar classic favorites. The group’s roots go back to the end of the 1940s at the Arthur Jordan Conservatory of Butler University in Indiana. Their repertoire centered on standards and soon they began to show an unusually free, improvisational approach to their harmony singing. In 1950’s they were already considered one of the top vocal groups in the industry. The Four Freshmen released their first LP, Voices in Modern, in 1955. That album was an impressive jazz document and a vocal pop effort, showcasing the group members’ playing as well as their singing; showing that these guys had lots of complex musical strings in their bow. Even though all founders of the ensemble retired, new lineups of the group have continued to perform into the 21st century and are considered an artistically valid ensemble. Their concert will take place at the Arturo Sandoval Jazz Club located at Deauville Hotel on 6701 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL. For more information, please call: 305.403.7565
