Florida artists invited to compete in Judaica Prize 2006

Jewish Museum of Florida. August 1st, 2006The Jewish Museum of Florida invites all Florida artists to create original nine-branched Chanukah Menorahs (Chanukiahs) for the Museum’s Avis Lee and Abraham Neiman Judaica Prize Competition 2006. This competition has been established to expand the Museum’s collection, enrich ritual celebration of Jewish Holidays with contemporary designs and encourage Florida artists to be at the forefront of a renaissance of Judaic art. The competition is open to artists who have a residence or studio in Florida, or have previously exhibited in the state. First prize is $1,800; second is $750; and third prize is $500. The entries must be functional Menorahs, for use with candles, oil or both. They may be made of glass, metal, clay or wood. The Museum encourages artists in all media to participate in reinventing the Chanukah Menorah. All entries must be no higher than 10 inches, no wider than 15 inches and no deeper than 12 inches. Only one entry per artist is allowed, and artists’ collaborations are permitted. All submitted entries must be created exclusively for the Jewish Museum of Florida Judaica Prize competition and become part of the Museum’s permanent collection. Contest winners will be selected by a jury, whose names will be announced after the winners are announced. Participation agreements are due by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1st, 2006.
