From June 21st through June 28th, 2006DanceAble has become an important gathering place for those who want to challenge society’s stereotypes and explore the expanding genre of mixed-ability dance. Created in 2000, this year’s event will featured London’s based company CandoCo, performing at the Colony Theatre on June 28th at 8:00 p.m. CandoCo is among the foremost dance groups to integrate dancers with and without disabilities. The CandoCo evening will consist of two works. First is The Journey, where the dancers defy and embrace physical differences with startlingly sensual choreography set to a riveting contemporary musical score. The second, In Praise of Folly, is a dramatic piece of dance theater inspired by the intrigues of Renaissance art, exploring the poles of beauty and destruction. Also as part of DanceAble, will take place a forum titled Beyond Disability. The forum will be hosted at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus Etcota Auditorium. There will be also a video screening of a series of documentaries about disability and the arts at the New World School of the Arts Dance Theater. The DanceAble program includes two workshops as part of the Florida Dance Festival summer dance training program held at the New World School of the Arts in downtown Miami. All facilities for DanceAble are wheelchair accessible and ASL interpretation will be provided at the forum For more information, please call: 305.358.5885
