From Mar 16th through 17th, 2007Award-winning Rio de Janeiro-based choreographer Marcia Milhazes returns to Miami as part of Tigertail Productions’ 2006 – 2007 Season. Her company will perform their new work, Tempo de Verão (Time of Summer) at Miami Beach’s Byron Carlyle Theater on Friday and Saturday, March 16th and 17th, 2007 at 8:30 pm. Milhazes’ piece is based upon her own memories of her childhood in Brazil, and is inspired by summertime waltzes and the lyrical rhythms of Rio. The dance weaves together subtle variations on human relationships as they are anchored in the natural world. Combining a lilting musical score with a collage of the sounds of summer itself, Milhazes also incorporates striking and playful sets by her own sister, internationally renowned visual artist Beatriz Milhazes. Milhazes will be in Miami for a residency for the week prior to the performances at the Byron Carlyle. Her activities here include master classes to be held at Florida International University and at New World School of the Arts. In addition, there will be a panel discussion open to the general public on the relationship between dance and the visual arts on Wednesday, March 14th at 6:30 p.m. at the Dorsch Gallery in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District.
