From March 27th through 28th, 2006The Miami International Piano Festival once again offers South Florida audiences a stunning array of artists from around the globe in a string of performances from Broward to Miami-Dade County. From genius prodigy solo recitals to full orchestral concerto nights, the 2006 season promises to offer a smorgasbord of talent to please a variety of musical tastes. For its “Master Series,” the Festival presents two tremendous evenings of classical treasures at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. On Monday, March 27 at 8:00 p.m. Kemal Gekic, whose incredible American debut at the Festival in 1999 helped earned him a position as Artist-in-Residence at FIU, performs a solo recital that includes all of the Lizst Transcendental Etudes. Alan Walker, a renowned Liszt scholar and author delivers a pre-concert lecture at 7:00 p.m. A concerto evening at 8:00 p.m. on March 28 features the Broward debut of the Miami International Piano Festival Orchestra, William Noll, conductor. Guest soloist and prodigy, Sijing-Ye, a 13 year old pianist from China, performs Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Valery Sokolov, a 19-year-old violin virtuoso from the Ukraine, who recently won the 2005 Enesco Competition, joins the orchestra for the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. And for a special pre-concert event at 6:30 p.m., the Festival presents the Florida premier showing of “Natural Born Fiddler,” a stunning new film about Sokolov by renowned French filmmaker, Bruno Monsaingeon.
